Commitment to achieving Net Zero

GGMR ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2022

Description automatically generated

GGMR is a small business of 4 people who are office based within a co-working facility that is owned and run by Wiltshire County Council. The costs of the office we rent include all of the running costs e.g.

power, heating etc. As a result we are covered by the Carbon Neutral Council Plan (embedded link to the council plan)

Scope 1 – has been classified as zero as the office is at Digital Mansion, Mansion House, Pickwick Rd, Corsham SN13 9BL which is a facility, owned and run by Wilshire County Council. A link to their Carbon Neutral Plan is above.

Scope 2 – is zero as the electricity the council purchases comes from a zero-carbon source.

Scope 3 – The areas covered in this plan, and which are within GGMR’s gift are: Commuting, purchased goods, business travel and end of life management.

Commuting

We have used the GHG conversions factor spreadsheet to calculate the omissions for commuting.

This year we have reduced the number of office days for the team. Based on this the emissions for commuting and fuel are: 659KG a reduction of 466 kg on last year

The founders of the business car share to save on emissions.

Business Travel – Business travel is undertaken only on the basis of necessity with a vast majority of meetings being undertaken via Teams or Zoom. When business travel is required, it is planned in advance to ensure the most cost effective and ecologically beneficial method of travel is selected. When vehicles are used, we always car share and travel at a point in the day where the risk of queuing is minimised.

Purchased Goods:

IT Equipment – We only purchase new equipment when existing equipment has come to end of life. Equipment is recycled within the organisation where possible with appropriate security protocols being executed to ensure laptops etc are cleaned down when employees exit ready for the next employee to take ownership.

Office Furniture – Across the business we are passionate about recycling and UpCycling. This means that the furniture on our office was purchased second hand

Stationery and office supplies – We always look to source goods locally and there is a stationery store right opposite our office from which we procure all office supplies. We also employ a “print only if necessary “policy for our team and this is on our e mail signatures now to encourage the clients and organisations we work with to follow suit.

End of Life Treatment – When equipment comes to end of life for our purposes, we either offer it to local educational or charitable foundations, and if it is not of use, we revert to manufacturer guidelines regarding the recycling of the equipment to ensure it is disposed of with minimum impact on the environment. We are very focussed on recycling across our stationery and office equipment space, with recycling bins for all types of waste in our office as well as the building landlord, Wiltshire Council, supplying extensive recycling facilities. When office furniture comes to end of life, we dispose of this via the council service offerings to ensure that recycling occurs whenever possible.

Emissions reduction targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.

We do not see a significant decrease in emissions over the next 5 years but an actual increase as we will be growing the company and employing more people. We will continue with our dedication towards net zero and will continually review the strategies we have in place as we grown in order to ensure we maintain the momentum towards our target of being net zero by 2030.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2022 baseline.

  • Recycling and upcycling of office equipment and waste

  • Further increased WFH days for the team to reduce carbon emissions

  • Employees are able to purchase and expense energy efficient lightbulbs

  • Employees who WFH are asked to sign up to the “switch off and unplug” strategy and be mindful of what energy is used in the home.

  • “Stay digital” strategy where documents are only printed where necessary. This statement is now appearing on our E Mail signature to encourage clients and other organisations we interact with to do the same.

  • Improved our supplier selection process by adding extra weighting in the section process for suppliers that are carbon efficient.  In addition, making it a mandatory requirement for suppliers in a bidding process to provide their Carbon Reduction Plan including their Net Zero 2050 commitment.

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as the following which will be in place during the delivery of our contracts from the end of 2024:

  • For business travel/commuting:

  • Implement a cycle to work scheme

  • Encourage staff to walk, cycle or use public transport

  • Encourage staff to purchase electric or hybrid vehicles

  • Look to introduce a fuel card for business travel so we are better able to monitor fuel usage

  • As this is the main area of emissions for the company and there is a level below which we will not be able to fall; we will also be instigating carbon offsetting measures

  • For home working:

  • Encourage employees to switch to more renewable energy options for home heating and electricity by providing an incentive to support the cost of transition.

  • Look to have a rolling quarterly review of technologies available that better facilitate home working

Measurements of our carbon emissions will be communicated in quarterly management meetings, resulting in a clear roadmap/plan of action to support and address any issues and identify new carbon reduction measures to ensure we remain on track for Net Zero 2030.
